Finding Value in Writing

There can be tons of reasons to write a story, poem, novel, or anything in between. And as many reasons as there are, a lot of value can be found from it. Sure, writing can make you money. But is that the reason you write?
For most of us, we don't make a lot of money from writing our books. It doesn't take the value away though. Your book is just as valuable as Stephen King's or Dean Koontz's.
An Indie book doesn't lose its value just because a big house didn't publish it. If you ask me, in my opinion, it strengthens it. You know why? Because you did all the work. You replaced the publisher, agent, marketing team, and all those other people behind the scenes that readers don't see. Sure, you hired an editor--but that was all you. So, why shouldn't Indie books have value. But, I'm talking about writing, not books per se.
Okay, here is a list of what you can value from writing...
You are taking a personal adventure that no one else has ever taken before. Even if you're writing a fairytale retelling, this is something new and you're going on the adventure before any reader. That's cool.
Writing can heal a soul. Even if it is something you don't share with others, you can write a personal story that you're the only one who will read and it CAN help you heal.
Writing can help you solve a mystery. Where did the socks go? While that can be a silly story, it can be a fun way to figure something out.
Writing gives you a wonderful way to "kill time". It can definitly take the boredom out of life lol.
Writing can help others out of a jam or solve their mystery. It can teach a lesson that they needed, or simply entertain them. We can all value something like that.
Writing can give you peace.
Writing can help you become smarter--all that research you do, some of it will eventually stick lol.
Writing helps your imagination grow, it's food for your brain.
Writing gives you things to talk about at socials (any kind of gathering). It'll put smiles of people's faces, knowing they've met a real writer--opposed to a fake one, I guess lol. Didn't know there were any of those lol. BTW, I've actually heard that a lot "I never met a real author before." I love meeting those people lol.
Writing opens doors. Not just to fictional worlds, but real ones too. Before you know, you're being invited to special places like career day and such. I'm still waiting on my invite, but it does happen.
The list can go on. Everyone is different. What you value from writing can be bigger or smaller, it can entail things I would never have thought of. It can be something simple. Whatever it is, hold onto those values. They make the writer in you important.
Would you like to share your values?
