"Questionables" Part 2--Would You Rather...

This questionable is all about you. Writers, my question is...

Based on one of your books, or one you read--As your character reaches the height of your story, how would it turn out if the character made a different choice? Would you rather take them down the path you put them on, or would you have taken them on a different path if you had written the book now? Let's take this question a little deeper. Would you rather take this path yourself, or would you rather take a different route than the character took?
