Continuing with the unseen story series, this week, let's talk about book titles. What's in a name?
As a writer, how did you come up with your title for your recent story?
Readers: Thinking back to your favorite book. Does the title fit perfectly with the story? If you could change the title, what would you call it?
Personally, I wouldn't change any of the titles from the books I've read. I think the authors of these books picked the right title for all of them.
As for my books, they were all different. The most recent would be Lost Through Time. I was stuck on this title for a minute. I wanted the title to work as a whole with the other books in the series. Murder Through Time, Missing Through Time, Lost Through Time, and Quakes Through Time--see the pattern? The series is science fiction time travel so while thinking of the titles, I wanted the hint of time travel within the title--through time gave that subtle hint that I was going for, I just changed the first word--murder, missing, lost, and quakes, telling what each book was about. In other books, I used a title generator to find the right title because I was a little undecided. Sometimes, you have to think outside of the box. Other titles came from the story itself, like Farmer Takes a Wife, although it was about a rancher, not a farmer. But I liked the song better, so I thought it was a better fit for the story. Rancher Takes a Wife didn't sound as appealing lol. Books like the Peterson Estate came from the family's name, Emily Peterson, her mother, etc. Back when I started writing, it just made sense to use the family name since it was about the family, Emily in the forefront. In a child's mind, simpler was easier lol.
You can answer both questions or one--you choose.
